MADPL - Week 14
Steventons go into the Christmas break having maintained their slender lead at the head of the Middlewich & District Pool League with a 6-2 win over Turnpike. Saxons stay close in touch after a resounding 7-1 win over Golden Lion.
Broughton’s chances of a top-two finish are now looking very remote despite a 7-1 drubbing of Boars Head – a victory that included a second 8-ball break of the season for Mike Beeston.
Elsewhere Knights Grange inflicted a 5-3 defeat on Top House which leaves the Winsford based team just above the wooden spoon position and Feathers recorded a 6-2 win over Big Lock to continue their recent good form after a very poor start to the season.

MADPL - Week 13
It continues to be a two-horse race at the top of the Middlewich & District Pool League as the top two both secured similar 6-2 victories and head towards the Christmas break with only a single point between them.
Steventons entertained Feathers from Winsford and eased into a 4-0 lead before stuttering over the line, while Saxons avenged their only defeat so far with a similar victory against Knights Grange. Broughton maintained their slim hopes of a top-two finish with a comfortable win over Big Lock.
Elsewhere, a narrow win for Golden Lion against basement team Boars Head was sealed with a second 8-ball break from Captain Simon Nadin. Turnpike battled back from 3-1 down to earn a point at home against Top House.
MADPL - Week 12
It looks like a two-horse race at the top of the Middlewich & District Pool League after Steventons maintained their good run of results with a solid win away at Broughton despite going 2-0 down. That result leaves the Crewe outfit 5 points adrift in third place with any chance of silverware out of their control.
Saxons bounced back from last week’s dropped point with a convincing 7-1 defeat of Turnpike. Performance of the night saw an 8-ball break from Danny Massey.
Feathers, Big Lock and Golden Lion also recorded much needed wins. In next week’s games, Saxons must visit Knight Grange and will be seeking to avenge their earlier defeat at the hands of their near neighbours, while Steventons play host to the Feathers.
KNOCKOUT NEWS
Captains
One fixture has been rearranged with league approval.
I am still awaiting the results from 6 other matches. If the results are not received by close on Friday, I will assume both players were a no-show.

MADPL - Week 11
Steventons strengthened their grip at the top of the Middlewich & District Pool League as they inflicted a second 8-0 thrashing against Boars Head. The scoreline was somewhat flattering as the basement team deserved far more than they got from this match – an indication of the improvement the team has made this season and belies their lowly table position.
Second placed Saxons could only manage a draw against Feathers sp they slip a point behind but remain two points above Broughton, convincing 6-2 winners over Top House.
Turnpike continued their recent run of good form with a comfortable 5-3 win over Knights Grange who trailed 5-0 at one point.

MADPL - Week 10
Steventons continue to ride high at the top of the Middlewich & District Pool League as they rode their luck with a 6-2 win at Big Lock. In a match which could easily have ended up any score, both sets of players missed good opportunities, with only visiting skipper Alan Forster displaying table topping form. Trailing 2-1 early on, the Steventons players did well to win the final five frames to maintain top spot.
Turnpike faced a similar deficit when they visited Golden Lion, but also executed a remarkable turnaround to leave their hosts po-faced.
Reigning champions kept up their title bid with a 5-3 reverse against last season’s runners-up Broughton, who stay in third spot but have slipped three points behind.
Elsewhere, wins for Feathers and Top House ensured that Boars Head are now rooted to the foot of the table.

MADPL - Week 9
As the Middlewich & District Pool League reached the mid-point in the season, he Feathers remain bottom although they did improve their season tally with a much needed victory in a rearranged fixture over Golden Lion. The Middlewich outfit suffered two defeats in two nights to leave them just two points above the bottom placed team, as they lost the week’s regular fixture 6-2 against stablemates and current title front runners, Steventons.
Saxons scraped a win over Boars Head to maintain their title challenge, they face Broughton next in the first match after the turnaround – a fixture they won comfortably at the start of the season.
Turnpike also ended the first half of the season on a high with a 7-1 win over Feathers, whilst Big Lock piled more misery on Top House who stay second from the bottom but by the narrowest of margins.
MADPL - Week 8
The race for the Middlewich & District Pool League remains wide open with three teams level at the top with twelve points each after eight matches.
Steventons got back to winning ways with a 6-2 victory at Top House to cling on to top place on frames won. Saxons were last week’s biggest winners as they thrashed Big Lock to dent the Middlewich team’s title aspirations.
Broughton also continued their good form with a 5-3 win away at Turnpike and Boars Head made a draw when the visited Knights Grange to move above both Turnpike and Top House.
MADPL - Week 7
The top-of-the-table clash between Knights Grange and Steventons lived up to expectations with both teams fully aware that the winners would gain a big advantage at the table summit. Players from both sides displayed great skill with every frame played to a high standard; Steventons set the early pace taking a 3-0 lead but were pegged back before Lee Foster and Mike Coe held their nerve to seal the win.
That defeat saw Knights Grange slip down to fifth spot as Broughton secured a similar victory over the league leaders’ stable mates, Golden Lion, to leapfrog several teams into second place.
Top House looked set to overturn their recent poor form as they led reigning champions, Saxons 4-3 but failed to take the final frame and the points were shared. The frame of the night saw former captain Lee Miller lose against Top House Landlord Dave Preston.
Meanwhile, Boars Head secured their first away win in more than three years, a result that also sees them move into their highest ever league position. Big Lock had the chance to move into second spot but failed to do better than a draw at bottom placed Turnpike.
MADPL - Week 6
Steventons consolidated their position atop the Middlewich & District Pool League as they recorded their first home win of the season. That win moves them clear of Saxons who dropped points for the second successive week as they were held at home against Golden Lion.
Knights Grange, on a strong run of form, move above Saxons into second place after a resounding win against Top House. Big Lock also continued their promising start with a 5-3 victory over Feathers, meanwhile last year’s wooden spoon winners, Boars Head from Middlewich moved off the foot of the table with a home draw against last season’s runner-up.
Steventons now face the second and third placed teams in the next two sets of games, a run which could have a big bearing on the league title.
MADPL - Week 5
Saxons seemingly invincible run seemed set for a continuation when they eased into a 2-0 at home to “noisy neighbours” Knights Grange, but the visitors were determined to have their say. They set about reversing the fortunes bay rattling off four straight frames to dent the champions 100% record. They went one better in the next frame as Dave Ellis, returning to league action this season after an absence of more than ten years, made a sublime finish with pinpoint precision on his final ball and opening the black with perfect control and left the table to a standing ovation. Knights Grange went on to claim the final frame to inflict Saxons heaviest home defeat in recent memory.
That slip gave Steventons the chance to move into top spot, any win would have done and they did it in style with an 8-0 whitewash at The Feathers, their second clean sweep away from home this season.
Top House dropped another point whilst earlier leading 4-3 against Turnpike and Boars Head also secured their first point of the campaign with a draw against Golden Lion.
Broughton gained a 6-2 win over Big Lock to leapfrog them in the table into third place.

MADPL - Week 3
Saxons secured their third straight 6-2 victory in as many games, this time, at the expense of Turnpike from Middlewich. That result consolidates their hold on the top spot and already the signs are looking ominous for the rest.
The Turnpike remain without a point as do Boars Head, losing out to a much improved Big Lock team who moved clear into second place following their two wins and a draw.
The other three games all ended even, with Top House throwing away a 4-1 lead, only to lose two frames due to Black-Ball fouls. Elsewhere, Steventons held advantage by 4-2 over visitors Broughton, who were down to using wild cards but the home side could not close out the match and had to settle for a point in the end.

MADPL - Week 2
After just two rounds of matches, reigning champions, Saxons, have established a lead at the top of the Middlewich & District Pool League with the only 100% record. Last week they made light work in seeing off The Feathers by six frames to two. Saxons captain, Sam Mundy recorded the first 8-ball break in the process.
Steventons moved into second place as they crushed neighbours Boars Head 8-0. A similar score-line was inflicted on Top House by last season’s runners-up, Broughton from Crewe.
Knights Grange inflicted a 5-3 defeat on Turnpike, a result which leaves the Middlewich outfit second bottom with no points, whilst Big Lock were surprise victors against Golden Lion.

MADPL - Week 1
The opening round of games in the Middlewich & District Pool League 2011-12 season saw a mouth-watering opening night clash between Saxons, last year’s Champions and Runners-up Broughton from Crewe.
Saxons, in a rich vein of form having also triumphed in the Summer League, immediately declared their intentions with a comfortable 6-2 victory, and whilst it’s very early days, who would bet against them.
Top House join them as early front runners after a similar score line against last year’s basement team. Feathers and Golden Lion each recorded 5-3 wins against Knights Grange and Turnpike respectively.
In the remaining fixture Steventons were left to rue some sloppy finishing as they let a 4-2 advantage slip to drop a point at home to Big Lock.

SUMMER LEAGUE - WEEK 5
After 5 weeks of groups stages the quarter final places were decided with the top seeds both heading their respective groups. Saxons held on to top spot in Group A when Golden Lion versus Top house finished all square but a point was enough for both to secure a quarter final berth. Boars Head managed the draw they needed, against Big Lock, to join them.
In Group B Broughton held onto top spot despite crashing to a surprise 6 - 2 defeat away to Knights Grange, which was enough for them to progress to the knockout stages. With Steventons having secured qualification last week, it was down to a winner takes all clash to decide the final place in next weeks quarter finals between Turnpike and Feathers. In the end the home side were no match for the side from Winsford going down 6 - 2.
SUMMER LEAGUE - WEEK 4
The respective favourites restored themselves to the top of their groups with convincing 7-1 victories in last week’s Middlewich Summer Pool League. Saxons defeated Big Lock who remain rooted to the foot of Group A, whilst Broughton inflicted a similar heavy defeat on The Feathers from Winsford. The other two rubbers both finished all square.
In tonight’s games, Big Lock must defeat Boars Head, in order to qualify from Group A, while Top House could take top spot if they can overcome Golden Lion.
In Group B, any of three teams (Feathers, Knights Grange and Turnpike) could finish bottom of the group and miss out on the knock-out stages.

SUMMER LEAGUE - WEEK 3
Top House delivered the first major shock of the Middlewich Summer Pool League with a deserved 5-3 victory over last season’s champions Saxons. The other Group A fixture saw a similar score line yielding a second win out of three for Golden Lion, this time up against near neighbours Boars Head.Broughton looked to be heading for a comfortable home win when they moved 3-0 in front against Turnpike, and later led again at 4-2, but The Middlewich outfit fought back and earned a well deserved point. Steventons moved to the top of Group B following a thrilling 5-3 victory against the Feathers. The game was evenly poised and came down to a double wild card deciding frame, eventually won by the visitors from Middlewich when young Ben Telfer held his nerve to defeat league veteran Paul Lander.

SUMMER LEAGUE - WEEK 2
After the first two rounds of games in the Middlewich & District Summer Pool League, both groups remain wide open.
Last year’s League Champions, Saxons, continued their good start with a second successive 6-2 win against their group’s second favourites – Golden Lion to move clear of the field. Top House opened their campaign with a similar score line against Big Lock, a result which roots the Middlewich outfit to the bottom position in the group.
In Group B, there were 6-2 wins for Steventons and Feathers.
Broughton secured a 5-3 victory against Boars Head in the inter-group friendly game.

SUMMER LEAGUE - WEEK 1
A first for Middlewich & District Pool League, saw the inaugural “MADPL Summer League” kick off this week, with last season’s teams being divided into two groups, each team competing in “Champions League Style” for a top four group spot in order to progress into the knock-out stages, which will be held during August.
The opening round of matches saw valuable away wins for last year’s League Champions Saxons as well as Runners-up Broughton. A debut win for Golden Lion of Middlewich a team which previously played out of Steventon’s Club, now having been forced to relocate due to the closure of Ideal Standard. Turnpike and Knight’s Grange shared the points in the other fixture.

SUMMER MINI-LEAGUE DETAILS |
Details below for the Summer Mini-League
Competition commences next week ~ June 29th. The teams have been split into two groups (split was based on last year’s final league places).
For the mini-league, teams will play each other once – either home or away. I have suggested that each team having a Bye from the respective groups play each other instead of having a free week. These friendlies will have no bearing on group outcome.
The top four from each group will then play off knock-out style to determine overall winner.
Match format will the same as for normal league games – eight frames of singles play (max of three wild cards permitted per match). KO stages will be best of nine singles (no wild cards permitted).
Results will be posted on website as usual, Quarter Final draw will be published as soon as possible.
June |
Update:
Due to late confirmation / payment from some teams, I have not yet prepared the fixtures for next season.
We currently have 8 teams confirmed / paid with two more “very highly likely” making the same 10 teams as last year, with a possible additional team making a late application.
My intention is to delay the start of the season until the first week of September – and to run an additional mini Summer League (at no additional cost).
I am awaiting final payments and will confirm details of the mini-league as soon as possible – likely first fixture will be June 29th and will then run through to end August.
The other advantage this gives is that once the league ‘proper’ commences, the majority of summer holidays will be passed.
